With the development of infrared focal plane array and infrared detector, the technology ofinfrared thermal imaging is more and more widely applied in military, aerospace, medical andmonitoring. Infrared detectors receive the object radiation energy, which is also formed by theambient temperature, the radiation system and atmospheric factors. The infrared thermal image isso called temperature image. In the reason of external radiation and other factors, the quality ofinfrared thermal image system is lower than the visible image, which will aggravate the burdenof the system follow-up treatment. Therefore, designing an efficient, real-time infrared thermalimaging system becomes a very urgent task.The development of DSP and SOC technology makes digital signal processing practical.The paper designs a remote communication system of an infrared image processing based onfiled programmable gate array (FPGA) and digital signal processor (DM642), employing the TI’sDM642and ALTERA’ s FPGA as the core processor and proposing the framework to establishthe system of hardware and software design of system. The main contents are as below:(1) The available threshold value was adopted to make the infrared thermal image from thetemperature pixels. The quality of corrected image was improved, more details and clear outline.(2) A method of temperature fuzzy probability was embedded into DSP in order to improvethe accuracy and real-time in the fault analysis by temperature. It diagnosed the fault by threefuzzy states: normal state, general failure, and serious failure in the system. With thecompensations for the equipment aging and the working temperature, we located the failure, andthe testing result was consistent with the international standard.(3) We designed the processing platforms of hardware and software based on FPGA andDM642. The hardware system includes some parts, such as acquisition circuit modules, DSPblocks, the FPGA logic control module, power module, and so on. In the software design, wewrote some programs of driver and applications for DSP/BIOS configuration, EDMA, TCP/IPprogram, Nioss configuration and signal preprocessing.(4) The system has been debugged, and can operate stablely and reliablely. The real-timeprocessing capability is significantly improved. By the DM642algorithm, the image ownsabundant information with a clear outline. It took about15ms for a fault to be detected,indicating that the system was effective in the real-time system.
