Ultrafast photoelectric detection technology plays an increasingly important role in industry, agriculture and military fields. In order to accurately obtain high-speed, real-time, transient optical information, a variety of high speed photoelectric detection methods have been applied. To some extent, the traditional high speed Image-converter camera meet the demand of high-speed imaging. However, with the further development of solid-state image sensor, its superior performance in size, weight, and dynamic range etc., make the solid-state image sensor gradually be taken seriously in ultrafast photoelectric detection field. Different types of solid-state image sensor for ultrafast photoelectric detection have been applied and developed. In order to achieve ultrafast optoelectronic detection based on solid-state image sensors, as well as develop the technology of ultra-fast full-solid-state image sensor, a novel method to realize high-speed photoelectric detection using ordinary CCD is presented. By changing the charge transfer mode of CCD, fast photoelectric diagnostics of single point with linear CCD and high-speed line scanning with array CCD can be achieved, respectively. A fast photoelectric diagnostic system of single point based on linear CCD has been designed and fabricated to investigate the feasibility of this method. As the master chip, FPGA control the various modules of the system and complete the data collection, storage and transmission. A light emitting diode (LED) pulse has been used to measure the system. The data collected transmit to the host computer through the ISA bus and have been further processed to obtain pulse signal diagram. The results demonstrated that the method of high-speed photoelectric detection based on ordinary CCD is feasible. The rate of photoelectric diagnostics of single point is up to20MHz.With the successful validation of the method, a new, simple and effective way can be used for the high-speed optical information detection. It will extend the scope of application of the ordinary CCD, and greatly reduce the cost. Furthermore, it is a breakthrough in the research of ultra-fast full-solid-state image sensor.
