Now, Video signal processing has being widely applied in daily life. As peopleraise demands on the quality of life, the video processor’s quality of image processingand real time requirements are rising. Because of its flexibility and cost-effective,embedded system has been widely used in the video processor designs. This paper summarizes the past video processor architecture, which used withDSP and FPGA. After that, selects the current maximum performance chip of TIcompany TMS320C6455DSP and high-cost XC3SD3400A which belongs toXILINX Spartan3A-DSP series to complete the construction of a new video processor. The video processor of the FPGA and DSP can achieve alone, real-time video signalprocessing algorithms. Even when the complexity of the algorithm upgrade, FPGAcan be used as pre-processor to help DSP complete the real-time algorithms. Exceptthat, the video processor gives the extending of Camera link interface, serial interface,SDI interfaces, PS/2mouse interface, all what can effective enlarge the using scope ofthe video processor.Based on completing hardware design, this paper achieves the I2C bus modulesimulation in FPGA using VHDL. The I2C bus module is mainly used to initialize thecodec chip and programmable serializer MAX9257. Meanwhile, the paper alsodescribes the SDRAM reading and writing timing, instructions and other basicknowledge and then gives the FPGA SDRAM controller state machine’s simulationwaveform. In the algorithm, the paper gives median filtering algorithm, the OSDalgorithm and their simulations. The paper also introduces the high performance TI TMS320C6455DSP chipresources and gives a description of EMIF interfaces, analysis of the C6455chipdifferences between the various loading modes. Finally, ways of communicationbetween DSP and FPGA are elucidated in this thesis.
