The CT is also called computed tomography,it is a combination of computercontrol,X-ray imaging,electronic machinery technology and mathematical.Thetechnology began in1970s and to be applied in the field of geotechnical engineering in1990s.In less than20years,it is because of the advantages of simple operation,safety, notrauma,high quality of images and clearly observing the internal structure and sample thatacademic pay more and more attention on the CT technology,which,being the tool ofresearching rock and soil mesodeformation, shows flourishingly vitality in recentyears.Recently,Changjiang Scientific Research Institute has established a geotechnicalCT test room,researched and developed the CT can measure the internal structure’svariation process of geotechnical materials dynamically, quantitative and real-time withoutdamage axis instrument independently,which can measure the internal structure’svariation process of geotechnical materials dynamically, quantitative and real-time withoutdamage.In the Changjiang River Scientific Research Institute,the author has contacted andoperated a large number of CT test during three years. In the process of studying literature,experiment and communication with other scholars, the author found that the applicationof CT technology in the field of geotechnical engineering has not been to the full and notdeveloped the potential and the advantage of CT technology. How to use the software andselect the suitable algorithm for reprocessing CT image effectively and to exploit theinformation contained in the image fully is the key point of this paper.This paper relies on a set of CT triaxial axis test results,puts forward some new CTresearch methods on the basis of research results of predecessors Comparing the methodswith previous studies,this paper discussed the feasibility and applicability of them,andresearched the law of soil deformation.The specific work include:(1) This paper sums up the previous research results and methods.(2) This paper puts up a new method of binarization of images and demonstrates thefeasibility and usability of it.(3) This paper demonstrates that the CT test data processed by bitmap instead of grayimage is feasible. (4) This paper discusses several methods of reprocessing CT images and demonstrates thefeasibility and usability of them.(5) This paper censuses the matrix of bitmap,and researches the law of deformation of soilby statistical method.(6) According to the test, this paper puts up a kind of algorithm for calculating radial strainof each cross section, and researches the morphology of deforming sample’s further edge.(7) This paper demonstrates the perimeter and area of crack area always maintain a certainrelationship in the soil deformation process and puts up a kind of algorithm for calculatingthe perimeter and area of crack area.
