Presently,automatic fingerprint identification is extensively applied into our social life. many of them demand that the fingerprint identification should have high speed and good real time.This brings challenge to its technology research .In the ordinary course of events,we can only improve and integrate two sides of system hardware and software in order to satisfy the demand.For exemple,we use high performance processor for the hardware and adopt more convenient algorithm for the software.but this increases the cost of development and influences the system's promotion. In the meantime,the data bulk processed in the reprocessing procedure of fingerprint image is very great,so it is also very difficult to improve the processing rate with improved algorithm.Based above,a new system of automatic fingerprint identification is brought forward in order to look after both sides of hardware and software demand that is asked for by the system improvement.I have configured the high performance processor by using the characteristic of configuration of Nios II processor,and improved the system's processing rate by adopting the Nios II custom instructions. Concretely,arithmetic operations in the traditional fingerprint identification sysytem,for exemple add and subtract,multiply and division,mathematical power,square and so on,are implemented on hardware logic by using the Nios II custom instructions.The Nios II custom instructions has the function that it simplify a complex standard instructions array as a single instruction that is implemented by using hardware logic,further simplifies the system software design and quickens the system running rate.In the text,it outlines the biological characteristic identification and the background and sense of subject,and declares the principle of fingerprint identification in detail.In the meantime,it also briefly introduces the exploit resources and all kinds of development tool.On the basis,I finish part of design of system hardware and software.In the term of system hardware design,it mainly accomplishes the processor's configuration,the additivity of Nios II custom instructions and peripheral for the system demand,and the SOPC system's generation in the SOPC Builder integrating development environment.In the term of system software design,it mainly accomplishes the preprocessing of fingerprint image,and the abstraction and match of detail feature point by adopting the Nios II custom instructions and using the method of software programming in the Nios II IDE.
