An important trend in the future study of primary school teachingmaterials is the quantitative analysis of the theme, genre and exercises ofChinese textbooks, while meeting the requirements of scientific researchin information society.On the basis of previous studies and the analysis of four currenttextbooks versions,this dissertation provides classification criterion forarticle theme, genre, exercises content and competence levels, which arecompatible with database annotation techniques. In addition, it definesthe construction standards and requirements: systematicness, essentialityand priority. In the sub-database of theme, the criteria of the contentpriority, unity and distinction should be followed. In the sub-database ofgenre, the criteria of foundation, literary and style should be followed. Inthe sub-database of exercises, this paper clears the range and number ofexercises.Furthermore, this dissertation establishes a database of primaryschool textbooks. The labeled information includes version, grade, unit,lesson number, lesson type, title, author, topic, genre, and exercises. This database uses data from48textbooks of the four versions, a total text of1853, including1462intensive reading text,391non-intensive readingtext, and10093.5total exercises.In addition to the subtotals of the preceding information, this paperprovides detailed descriptions and analysis of the text topics, genre,exercises, while contrasting the similarities and differences between eachversion. The in-depth study and analysis of these textbooks characteristicsmay provide the compilation of teaching materials for future reference.
