Torque is one of the important parameters that reflect the workingconditions of the rotary systems. Torque is also essential for mechanicalproducts developing, quality inspection, and optimization control. Torquemeasurement has been widely applied in automobiles, ships and aircraft. With the continuous development of modern science and technology,non-contact, passive, miniaturization, and adapt to the complexity of thetest environment have become the development trend of the torquemeasurement. This paper presents a torque sensor system based on the acousticsurface wave technology. The advantages of this measurement system arepassive, high accuracy and good stability. The measurement system hasthe following characteristics: Quartz crystal with Euler angles (0°,134°,45°) cut could inspire high-performance surface acoustic wave; twosingle-port SAWR constitute a differential structure, a SAW temperaturesensor is added to improve temperature compensation; in order to obtain asufficient strain sensitivity, use different size of shaft for different ranges.ANSYS (Finite element analysis software) is used for static analysisof shaft. Stress transfer effect in the multi-layer is another focus ofstructure design. The result of analysis would lay an important foundationfor further torque sensor system, and service for sensor optimized design.Low SNR and shorter data is the main characteristics of SAW echosignal. In order to get a more accurate and stable frequency measurementresults, MATLAB is used to simulate the frequency estimate result. FFTperiod gram and interpolation algorithm (including quadratic interpolationRife algorithm) have been analyzed. The final frequency estimationmethod is M-Rife based on Welch algorithm. Welch algorithm is used for frequency pre-estimated and M-Rife algorithm is applied to adjust theestimated results. M-Rife based on Welch algorithm could overcome theFFT quantization accuracy estimated deviation and get higher estimationaccuracy.
