Big difference exists in the development technology of heavy-duty truck betweenChina and developed countries. Advanced technology and method play a crucial role inimproving the competitiveness of the heavy truck market, shortening the technology gapbetween home and abroad.In the above context, the paper researched into the reasonable product developmentprocess, Research and development capability of product, and effective design method interms of the related theory and research.First, this paper expounds the hybrid design process, namely the combined designwith the reversion. The key technology of the data acquisition, date processing and surfacereconstruction has been researched. Secondly, studied design platform based on the mixmodelling method of forward design and reverse design. The design platform as follow, thescanning measurement system gain obtain measurement data, the software of reverseengineering in the point cloud data processing, the forward software data for3D solidmodeling, so as to improve the production manufacturing entity data. The method can takeadvantage of two software, solve the weak problem of the software of reverse engineeringmodeling and CAD software point cloud processing ability. Finally, through related productdevelopment project in the heavy truck, this paper has got a technical platform from theREVscan hand-held laser scanning instrument collecting data to the point cloud datapre-processing in the Geomagic software and to forward design work flow in Catiasoftware. Thus, the theory and methods used in the actual project, effectively solved theengineering problem, and achieved good results.The study on the hybrid design of the product development process in this paper,put forward the reversion mix modelling method.A case study showed that the hybriddesign has improved the product development capability,shorten new product thedevelopment cycle, with practical engineering significance.
