Sports Weekly is the most popular newspapers about sports inChina. It has a large quota in the market and also been influential for quite a longtime. It represents the highest journalist’s spirit in China. The title of this artle isResearch on reports from the Sports Weekly about female image in the Asian Gamesin Guangzhou. Based on the reports from the Sports Weekly about male and femaleathletes, the article focuses on how gender issue has been raised in those reports.The article is aimed to find out whether there is a difference between the reportsabout male and female athelets because of their gender. If there is, what caused it tobe? Through analyzing the development of the entire industry of the sportsnewspapers, the article tries to explore some new insights under the modern mediasituation, and hopefully can be a guidance to other researches being done in thefuture on the industry of sports newspapers.The article has been divided into five parts. The first and second parts areintroductions to give the definition of what is going to be talked about in the laterchapters. The third part is the focus of the whole paper that after analyzing bothpictures and texts materials getting from the Sports Weekly, it will get to theconclusion that the imbalance between the reports on male and female athletes doesexist. The next part, the author will talk about the trend of the entire industry of thesports newspaper from the transfer of the cultural backgrand, development of themedia technology, knowledge about the female, and expectations from the audiencein order to get the conclusion that the balance between male and female is what thewhole world is seeking for and reports in the field of sports should get imrpoved.And the last part is the conclusion for the whole paper that media should establishthe right understanding of the gender issue, improve their sense of responsibily, payattention to the development of female reporters, and avoid using words containingdiscrimination.
