Integrated optics is widely used in the field of optical fiber communication, optical fibersensing technology, optical information processing, optical computer and optical storage. Theefficiency of the coupling between waveguide micro structured fiber and standard singlemode fiber is high, which is done with the electrical fused-taper technology. The newtechnology’s temperature field is easy to control and it has no explosive gas, so it becomes aneffective method in the manufacture of integrated optical devices. Because the fiberalignment technology is the key of the electrical fused-taper system, it’s very meaningful todo the researches on the it. In this paper, the main works are those:The paper summaries the present research status of the waveguide alignment technology.Design a method to realize the fiber alignment, and the key of the method are micro-imagingtechnique and embedded image process technology. With the characteristics of the fiberalignment technology, using the array CCD as the image sensor, analyzing and comparing theperformance of the light source and the camera lens, found the high accuracy microscopicmeasurement system. The research on the embedded system image processing is treated as the mainly work. The histogram, median filter, edge detection, line detection algorithm are carried out on theARM9platform. Basing on the embedded platform, communicating with PC, controlling thestepper motor, driving the LCD module and the image acquisition card are all realized. At last, from the experiment results, it can be known that the fiber waveguide alignment system hasthe stable, real-time and high alignment accuracy characteristics. It can lay a previousfoundation on the farther improving the electrical fused-taper technology.
