There is geographic advantage and cultural superiority in the region around MountainSong, which is the Neolithic age and three-generation cultural center, including Xia Dynasty,Shang Dynasty and Zhou Dynasty. The region around Mountain Song plays an important rolein the dawn of Chinese civilization and the form process of the Huaxia nationality, so it isworth studying settlement archaeology. Recently, space information technology, includinggeographical information system, remote sensing and global positioning system, has got greatdevelopment. It has been widely used in settlement archaeology. All on account of itsadvantages such as an effective management environment, real-time and dynamic monitor,quite extensive range. The data about unmovable historical and cultural heritage, whichconcentrates on a particular place, has the following features: space-time quality,multidimensional structure, mass data and complicated spatial relationship. All of these agreewith the spatial database on GIS platform. So, it is reasonable and necessary for us to applythe technology in archaeology, which has added a new and effective approach to the storageand retrieval of spatial data. An important platform has been built that is for analysing andmining settlement distribution patterns and inheritance model in complicated regionaltime-space system. The fertile development soil is provided by a lot of technique and method.The design and realization of prehistoric settlement spatial database about the regionaround Mountain Song are studied in this paper, and prehistoric settlement cultural migrationmodel and cultural transmission model is analyzed, which combined with the research ofChinese National Natural Science Foundation “A research on the time and space distributionmode for Prehistoric Settlement in the region around Mountain Song”. First of all, based onthe characteristic of spatial data about settlement and the demand in researching, an overalldatabase structure is built. In view of objected-oriented model Geodatabase, scheme of designand implementation about settlement spatial database is elaborated. The critical techniquesincluding data acquisition, data processing, concept design, logic design, workflow of dataloading and the quality controlling system are presented. These studies provide data and technical support for the archaeological research. In order to ensure standardization of thegeographical information data category level and coding, building the unified platform toknow, manage and share resource using settlement data properties, the coding design forprehistoric settlement spatial database about the region around Mountain Song is explained indetail. Especially, quantitative analysis is firstly applied to coding for the area of settlement.Take prehistoric settlement cultural migration and inheritance model, cultural transmissionand exchanges model for example, some capabilities of prehistoric settlement spatial databaseabout the region around Mountain Song are introduced. In the process, abundant mappingfunction and powerful space analysis on ArcGIS platform are integrated, the buffer analysis,spatial overlay and the statistical analysis included. The end of this paper lays emphasis on theconclusions about the current research achievement and culture rule. In the end, theadvantages and shortage of this system are summarized, and also look forward to the nextresearch work....
