Diode Pumped Solid State Laser(DPSSL) refers to the semiconductor lasers (LD) as pump sources are used to pump solid laser medium of solid laser. The thermal effect is influence on the development of solid-state lasers bottleneck. In order to obtain high power, high efficiency and high quality of beam DPSSL, this paper proposes a can solve all solid-state lasers from thermal effects of solutions, namely direct pump technology. This pump way can be effective to reduce the stokes loss, and can maximum limit reducing thermal effect.At present, Nd:GdVO4crystals is the thermal conductivity of the highest laser crystal, although its thermal conductivity and Nd:YAG crystal is similar, but its absorption section higher than Nd:YAG crystals. Especially it can doped with high neodymium ion concentration and do not produce the fluorescent concentration quenches, so aroused people’s special attention.Therefore, the paper will make a deep study, the following is the main work and results:1. Simply introduced the main characteristics of the solid-state lasers, advantage and application and development of the present situation; at the same time for the development of direct pumps are summarized. The solid-state lasers for is more common solid laser material of the characteristics of the contrast.2. Theoretically discussed the direct and indirect pumps distinction, and directly pump the advantage the advantage in reduce heating effect. Based on the model of cw end-pumped four-level system, compared the direct and indirect pump laser performance of the pump.3. Research on thermal management in end-pumped Nd:GdVO4laser, introduces and analyses the heat effect in the generation mechanism, through the comparison with indirect pump, it can directly pumped better reduce heat effect.4. Experimental analyses laser diode (LD) pump Nd:GdVO4crystal, use of Nd:GdVO4crystal of4F3/2â†'4I13/2transition get1340nm laser continuous wave output, in room temperature, obtain the efficient compact red laser670nm generation by intracavity frequency doubling(LBO crystal, cut for critical type I phase matching). Comparative results obtained for the pump with diode laser at808nm, into the highly-absorbing4F5/2level, are given in order to prove the advantages of the880nm wavelength pumping.
