This dissertation is based on the researches of two fields: one is gain-switched characters of Ti: sapphire laser and Nd:YVO4 laser, which is also pumped by the Ti:sapphire laser ; the other is direct pumping, with the comparation to conventional pumping, laser material is pumped directly to the emitting level(4I9/2â†'4F3/2). So far, Ti: sapphire laser has the widest tunable range in red and infrared wave band in solid-state tunable lasers,which has many important applications in many fields. The gain-switched characters of Ti: sapphire laser give us a way to get a narrow pules-width and high power peak value. This will improve the performance of Ti: sapphire laser, and make it more useful for many practical applications (such as the pumping source of OPO).Recently, narrow line-width laser diode has been produced alone with the development of technology in this field. Direct pumping, which has been replaced by conventional pumping, catches people's eyes again. Direct-pumping can reduce the thermal sediment greatly, and ensure the laser works in a more reposeful and effective condition, especially in some high power laser systems. So the researches on direct pumping, expecially for the high concentration laser materials are very promising and important.We mainly do some researches and experiements as follow:1. Researches on all-solid-state inner-cavity double frequency YAG laser pumping Ti: sapphire laser system. We do some designs for the cavity, using single prism, double prisms and birefringent filter to get a tunable output respectively.2. We do some theoretical calculation basing on the theory of gain-switch. After that, we validate it by experiments, and get a resort of 13.2ns narrow pulse-width output.3. Using Ti: sapphire pumping Nd:YVO4 laser, we also do some researches on the gain-switched characters of Nd:YVO4 laser,and get a resort of 1.88nm narrow pulse-width output at 1064nm and 10.6ns narrow pulse-width output at 1342nm respectively.4. We use our Ti: sapphire laser as the pumping source, and do some researches on Nd:YVO4 lasers under direct pumping. The output at 879nm of Ti:sapphire is used to pump different concentration laser materials directly to the emitting level. In comparetion with conventional pumping at 808nm, we analyse the advantages and disadvantages of direct pumping at 1064nm output and 1342nm output respectively.
