In the new century, education must meet the information needs of the community. Therefore, the world’s developed countries attach great importance to the digital construction and progress of IT education. At the same time, China must re-adjust the educational goals, to develop proposals for education reform and speed up the construction of information technology in education.In recent years, China has taken information technology development in education as a top priority, and used information technology to stimulate the modernization of education. With progressing in higher institutions’information promotion, there are more information on campus network, and the applications also become wider. Based on the current development, we propose the concept of "digital campus".Digital Campus is vitual educational environment that fully takes advantage of digital information. It is based on digital information and computer network, uses computers technology and network technology to collect, store, analyze, process and apply campus information on teching, scientific research, campus life and management. By using digital campus technology, the operation efficiency of the school teaching is improved, and realize the goal of improving teching management level and teching quality.The author, as technical leader of digital campus projects, has organized and participated in a number of projects. This paper is a summary of the projects documents.This paper introduces the current status of education networks, the background, the requirements and the goals of digital campus construction. The paper further discusses the principles of digital campus design based on customer requirements. We focus on network design, network topology, core network design and IP address assignment. The paper describes the campus network platform, the resource database, on-demand systems, and smart card systems. Due to the importance of campus network security and the computer room design/specifications, the details are discussed in the sixth chapter and the seventh chapter。The campus networks designed by the author have been put into use. Performance of these networks proves that the networks meet the daily teaching, management and research needs, and have achieved the desired goals.
