Nowadays, the development of dairy industry is restricted by the quality of raw milk from cow farms in China. Requirements for detecting fresh milk from farms are restricted by raditional testing methods and expensive imported detecting instruments, which is going against the improvement of fresh milk’s quality. Therefore, this paper discusses the research and development of detecting instruments for milk in order to satisfy the requirements for detecting milk from small and medium-sized farms.This paper discusses the research and development of embedded comprehensive detecting system for milk, which has three parts:composition alyzer for milk based on ultrasonic testing technique, counting system for the image of somatic cells in milk, and conductivity meter for milk.Firstly, traditional way of detecting milk composition is time-consuming and it is asking too much of operators, which is insufficient to meet current requirements for detecting milk. Ultrasonic testing technique is fast, simple, low-cost for hardware and effective in detecting milk composition compared with other physics testing techniques. This paper discusses the research and development of composition alyzer for milk which is based on ultrasonic testing technique and presents the concentration of main composition in milk by acoustic parameters. It has reached a certain precision.Thirdly, the detecting of milk’s conductivity can apply to fast diagnosis of bovine mastitis which is simple to operate, fast to detect, low-cost and accurate compared with cell counter. This paper studies the conductivity meter for milk based on bi-directional pulsed voltage.According to testing data, the composition alyzer for milk based on ultrasonic testing technique developed by this paper can present the concentration of main composition in milk. The error rate of cell counting is within5%and the error rate of conductivity meter is within3%, which can meet the requirements for detecting milk.
