With the quick development of Internet, email has become the most important partsof people’s daily life. After using the email service users have saved lots of data in theemail server. How to migrate from one email server to another is a new challenge fordevelopers.In this thesis we analyze the migration of emails which is the virgin area of emailservice and get the Gmail and Exchange migration tool for base, analyze therequirement of email migration tool, the technical difficulties and the remain issues, getthe conclusion after our analysis. We also give some personal suggestions for how todeal with exception and how to improve the performance by resolving problems weencountered. Base on these analyses we implement a prototype of migration tool portmails from Gmail to Exchange.Firstly we talk about the background technologies of our thesis, the situation andprogress of Gmail and Exchange Server. Then we analyze the main email protocolsPOP3and IMAP4and compare these two protocols from functionality and performance,explain the reason why we select IMAP4protocol for our tool. Then we analyze theCalendar and Contact parts which are the inline function of Gmail, get the conclusionaccessing data by Google Data API. At last we analyze some technologies in ExchangeServer, MAPI, Mapi.net and Exchange Web Services, get the differences between them.At fourth part of our thesis we talk about the design and implement of our migrationtool, we focus on the architecture of system and the relationship of class in the Commonmodule during our introduction of system design. We focus on workflow and the detailof migrate operation during our introduction of system implement.At last we concludethe result of test of system, and propose next work.
