With the development of computer technology and the popularity of the Internet, e-mail as a convenient way of exchanging information has been widely used. Because of its quick and easy exchange of information, a growing number of businesses and individuals use it as an indispensable information delivery platform. This thesis designs and implements a database-storage-based e-mail customer service prototype system, including functions: e-mail reception, mail functions, e-mail information management, address list management and account management, implementing the procedures, such as a local editorial e-mail sent to the server receiving mail from the server, the local email view and save. This thesis presents the basic technologies and implementation principles of e-mail systems, such as TCP/IP protocol, Winsock programming technology etc., In-depth research and analysis of the e-mail-related protocols and standards commonly used formats, mainly analysis of the standard RFC 822 format, and implement part of protocols in our e-mail customer service system, The design of a database–store-based e-mail customer service system, including e-mail sending module based on SMTP and ESMTP protocol, e-mail receiving module based on POP3 protocol, the relevant functional modules such as e-mail information management module, account information management module, and the design of table structures and logic relationships of the system database. We implement the e-mail customer service system, commonly used in Windows platform, using SQL Server2005 to manage the back-end database, which can manage multiple accounts and support multiple e-mail formats to send, receive, view, local storage and other functions. Finally, the system is tested by the functional and non-functional testing cases. The test results show that the system implements the basic sending and receiving e-mail functions, and is compatible with a variety of common e-mail servers. The requirements of e-mail users can basically be satisfied.
