What the afterloading radiotherapy belongs to the Brach Therapy means the radiation source would be inputted for radiation therapy by the remote operator, which must be proved to be the most appropriate location through putting the empty source container into the cavity of patient. The afterloading radiotherapy unit using the high activity and miniature radioactive source is a new generation of cancer therapy equipment which can control and design the optimized treatment plan. With the development of radiation physics, radiation dosimetry, digital image processing and mechatronics, the afterloading radiotreatment has expanded to various parts of the human body tumor treatment.In view of the poor positioning accuracy, low automation and intelligence, and lack of image orientation, a set of three channels afterloading radiotherapy system based on digital image processing, the needs of clinical practice and compute automation, which could design the treatment plan and implant and treat, has been designed in this paper. This treatment system mainly contains the main control system, TPS, and monitoring system. The TPS system would make a new treatment plan or load a standard treatment plan according the to the patient’s diagnostic image, then the main controlling system would get the treatment plan and set the parameters. The radioactive sources would be retracted automatically after treatment. The main control system is composed of computer, PLC and actuator(motor). The computer is the man-machine interface and a parameter display interface, and the lower machine PLC is the centre control which could controls the actuator movement and safety interlock with the treatment parameters from computer communication port. In the whole course of treatment, monitoring system guides the image location of source position. At the same time the monitor system could alarm and get back the radioactive source while the source location deviation exceeds the predetermined value. This can not only reduce peripheral auxiliary equipment configuration and installation, but also can effectively save the readiness of patients and treatment time, and reduce the suffering of patient. The system integrates the radiation physics, computer control, PLC control, motor-driven technologies and so on, which has high accuracy of source location, repeatability, high intelligent degree, and this system can guide the image location, monitor the whole treatment process, and implant, design treatment plan, and so on. The machine designed source interlock, safety door interlock, storage position interlock, power interlock and a series of safety interlock device, which can ensure the safety of the treatment process.This three channel afterloading radiotherapy system using a variety of new technology, which achieve a number of new features. The intelligence, security, reliability and stability of the various functions achieve the design requirement; especially the image positioning, TPS, source implants, radiotherapy and other functions were integrated. This is afterloading radiotreatment system can make the afterloading radiotreatment system has a huge development. At the same time, these new technologies, new functions can be applied to similar models, which can help the radiotherapy equipment overall quality to be improved.
