Femto is a kind of low-power low-cost micro base station that is deployed inindoor environments by end users. It usually connects to mobile operator’s network toprovide dedicated high-quality mobile communication services for indoor users byusing end users’ existing broadband connections, such as cable or optical fibber. In LTE, femto is called as Home eNodeB (HeNB), which can work in Open,Hybrid, and Close Subscriber Group (CSG) mode. In CSG mode, HeNB has a user list.Only the users in that list can get access to the HeNB. Due to the scarcity of frequencyresource, HeNB is often deployed in the same frequency with macro eNodeB. However, macro users in the proximity of a CSG HeNB can’t get access to the HeNB. Therefore, they will be subject to serious interference from the HeNB at the downlink. To solve theproblem, HeNB power control schemes in LTE are investigated in this paper. Besides, acomplete adaptive power control solution will be proposed. The first chapter in this paper introduces briefly the development, networkarchitecture and technical features of LTE technology. Then the HeNB is discussed indetail, including the generation of HeNB and its effect on LTE network. Besides, theinterference problem of HeNBs is pointed out, and research status on interferencesuppression of HeNBs will be analyzed in this section. The second chapter focuses on current typical HeNB power control schemes inLTE network, which will be analyzed and compared via system simulations. Meanwhile, serious performance loss of home users in these power control schemes will be pointedout in this section. In the third chapter, the method of setting initial transmit power of HeNBs isinvestigated based on the power control scheme of network listening. Some groups ofparameter configurations are found to achieve a good interference suppression effect. Inorder to achieve a better performance tradeoff between home users and macro users andensure a good interference suppression effect, segmented power allocation scheme isproposed. In the fourth chapter, initiation mechanisms of eICIC (Enhanced Inter-Cell Interference Coordination) are firstly discussed. In addition, an improved initiationmechanism is proposed. Then based on above discussion, a complete adaptive HeNBpower control solution is formed. Simulation results show that the adaptive solution caneffectively solve the problem of severe performance loss of home users in current powercontrol solutions, and achieve a good interference suppression effect at the same time. The whole paper is summarized in the last part, and the research plan in the nextphase will be pointed out.
