Family Archives Management Model Analysis

The family is the basic unit of society. Family archives are all kinds of data worthy of future reference that are formulated in family affairs and social activities by family members. Family archives come into being with the appearance of family, reflect the history and culture of one family in a unique way, and refract the development and vicissitude of society. Family archives are the fruits of society, economic and civilization development. Family archives are the cells of cultural, and also can promote the culture and civilization, especially enhance the quality of the population.Establishing family archives is in favor of protecting family members’ legal rights and interests, enhance the family cohesion, promote and inherit family culture; it is good to enhance the civil legal consciousness, carry forward socialism spiritual civilization and promote society unity and harmony; it is also beneficial to popularize archives management knowledge, broaden the working field of archives management and activate archives management working systems. Establishing family archives is the need of work and life of family members, the need of social civilization advancement and the need of archives administration development.At present, study for family archives remains on theory level in China, and exploration on family archives establishment practice is just started. Establishment of family archives is in disperse, autonomous and out-of-order management condition because of the scarcity of uniform standards and special organization to manage family archives.There are many characteristics for family archives to distinguish other kinds of archives, such as the source particularity, both coexistence of universality and oneness, privacy, diversity, practical applicability and so on. Therefore, new model and approach is necessary in establishing family archives. And the fully expression of family function, the combination between the uniform guidance of archives administrative organizations and the fully support of the relevant departments is also necessary.On the base of the expatiation of present family archives administration model, such as family administration model, neighborhood committees administration model and mandatory administration model, this paper put forward a new administration model, namely family records center model, combining with the managerial experience of the overseas records center. This new Chinese characteristic family records center model can provide family archives mandatory services, relieve the stress of family and the burden of the archives administrative organizations, guarantee the management quality and avoid the national archives property loss. In this way, the administration of family archives can truly follow a scientific administration track.
