The phenomenon of traffic congestion is increasing seriously by the process of urbanization and the increasing of the traffic vehicles. So the intelligent transportation system (ITS) which used to ease traffic congestion has become a research hotspot. This paper designs a multi-function terminal controller based on intelligent transportation system, it complete much functions such as real-time positioning, automatic report station, wireless communication, remote configuration, safety alarm and real-time display vehicle condition and so on. According to system requirements and overall design, the main work carried out in this paper is as follows:1. The W77E058is selected as the main chip of the system through a detailed analysis and comparison of the51-series chip and WINBOND W77E058, because of its fast instruction execution, high stability and having two full-duplex serial port.2. It points out the deficiencies in communication costs, transmission delay, data rate and transmission reliability which is based on the wide investigation on Communication Mode between the terminal controller and the Monitoring center in china. We choose the more popular GPRS network to realize wireless communication between the terminal controller and the Monitoring center, finally.3. It uses SIEMENS MC52i as GPRS communication module to realize full-duplex communication and file transparent transmission. The network configuration through the standard AT command set and then designs the communication protocols between the terminal controller and the Monitoring center.4. It uses HOLUX GR-87as GPS module to obtain vehicle location information. It compares the station information obtains real time and the station information pre-existing to achieve automatic report station. In addition, the system improves the accuracy of the automatic report station by the correction of GPS losing lock.5. It uses TTS chip to play audio in automatic report station and makes the play audio more accurate and convenient. at the same time, it reduce the trouble for taping.Finally, this paper tests the functions and indicators for the various sub-modules, respectively. According to test results, each module is designed to meet the design requirements.
