With the rapid development of computer graphics and multimedia technology,simulation system which based on virtual reality has a very wide range of application ineducation, games, oil, medicine and other fields. Combined with the needs of the oil field, thevirtual reality technology can be applied to the simulation system of fire cased by oilfieldsblowout out of control and fire extinguishing. To achieve the simulation of the fire scene, it isa key link to achieve real-time and efficient simulation of fire, smoke and water in the system.With the continuous improvement of computing power of GPU and applying the charactersof parallel computing, pixel processing and programmable of GPU to the system, theefficiency of the system and the realistic of screen have been improved.First, it describes the current study on situation of fire simulation and GPU in the paper,then it makes a detailed presentation of the programmable GPU graphics pipeline and GPUgeneral computing. From the two major aspects of oilfield blowout fire and fire extinguishing,it achieves oilfield blowout fire and accident handling simulation, and focuses on thefollowing issues:1. To increase the visual effect and the running rate for the system, which contains firecased by oilfield blowout and fire extinguishing, in this paper, it has finished the simulationof the fire which is important in the system. The design process of the fire simulation withphysics-based approach has been introduced, and the physical model of the fire has beendetermined, then the visualization of the fire has been completed. During the process of thefire simulation, applied the programmability and parallelism of GPU to achieve the physicalequations, and it uses the approach particle system based on GPU to achieve fire visualizationand to improve the efficiency and realism of whole system.2. For hazards and characteristics of oilfield blowout fire, and according to theextinguishing methods and operation procedures of oilfield blowout fire, we can choose themethods and extinguishing agent which been used in this paper, and then we select particlesystem based on GPU to achieve extinguishing agent and smoke simulation. Using thecollision detection to detect contact of extinguishing agent and fire, through the changingparticle parameters of the fire which cased by the result of the detection, we get the dynamicperformances of fire. Last, we can complete the fire extinguishing model of oilfield blowoutfire.
