The evolution of the MAN (Metropolitan Area Network) is propelled with the rapid development of Internet, the further increasing needs to the bandwidth of the services such as IPTV, network games, distance education, distance medical treatment service, e-commerce and the future digital home, and the needs to the multi-service convergence of data, voice, image, etc.The existing MAN mainly uses switched network which is constructed by using the Ethernet techniques. It has poor stability, complex operation and maintenance and cannot provide differentiated QOS assurance. Practice shows that the support of MAN to the enterprise users can be enhanced greatly by using routers to be the equipment of core layer and distribution layer and starting the functions such as MPLS.This paper analyzes the current situation and the burning questions of MAN in Changde and mainly studies the key techniques of the operational IP MAN. It also expounds, analyzes and compares the current routing protocols, user binding techniques, transmission technique of MAN and broadband access techniques in detail and briefly discusses the realization of IPTV and MPLS VPN of IP MAN. In the end, in combination with the current situation of MAN in Changde, it puts forward the optimization scheme of the MAN network structure of Changde and the realization of the services such as routing design, QOS, IPTV, MPLS VPN, etc.This paper puts forward the optimization and transformation scheme of MAN in Changde. The core layer uses two core routers to connect CHINANET and CN2which adopts EBGP routing protocol and IBGP protocol is used between the two core routers and in the MAN, OSPF protocol is used. The access layer of the backbone network is equipped with two pieces of BRAS equipment in Changde Telecom Bureau and four pieces of SR equipment (using the old ones) and in the county bureau, there is only BRAS equipment (also be used as SR). So, the change of MAN from switched one to routing one is realized. According to the practical situation of the Changde access network, this paper puts forward the optimization and transformation scheme of the broadband access network of the Telecom New Community, Zaoguo Module Bureau and Wuling Branch. By transforming part of the switches there, the broadband access network can achieve the two-level protection mechanism and the separation and binding of users. The equipment has strong QOS power and supports multicast.After the optimization and transformation, the change of MAN from switched one to routing one is achieved. It introduces BRAS and SR, constructs a clear service control level, uses VPN, multicast technique and QOS and supports multi-service.
