The dual drivers of technology and market make the wireless communicationstandards continue to evolve. The Long Term Evolution (LTE) of wirelesscommunication system proposed by3GPP has been regarded as the most importantstandard of the evolution from3G to4G. Based on the LTE standard, a LTE physicallayer downlink simulator is presented with implementation of key technologies such asOFDM and MIMO. The platform works as a baseband LTE physical layer downlinktransceiver system. The downlink simulator focuses on modeling a single link between a single userand base station which includes three modules of transmitter, channel and receiver.Simulation supports the FDD mode of physical downlink shared channel, the referencesignal and the sync signal are also considered in the transmitter, functionalities like timesynchronization and frequency synchronization, channel estimation and equalization arerealized in the receiver. Simulator supports transmission mode of SISO, spatialmultiplexing and transmit diversity MIMO, different channel correlation and mobilityare also considered; thanks to the channel codec module, the simulation results includenot only the raw BER, but also the BER with channel coding considered, the BLER andthe throughput of the system under different configurations. The implementation isbased on the release10of the3GPP specifications and the platform is based onMATLAB R2010a.
