Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) is a new ATC monitortechnology that is widely advocated by the ICAO. The employment of ADS-B cangreatly improve the efficiency of air surveillance and reduce the fees and costs of airtraffic management. Currently, motivated by ICAO, nations all over the world areactively developing and promoting this new technology in the ATC system. ADS-Bequipment has been extensively used by countries like Australia, United States andEurope. At present, there are three kinds of mature ADS-B data links: UAT data link,the Mode S1090MHz ES data link and VDL MODE4data link. Chinese aviation ismaking great efforts to develop the1090MHz ES (Mode S) data link which has matureground receiving equipment in China. The paper describes an ADS-B target simulatordesign based on1090MHz ES data link. The simulator can simulate the three flightstatus of multiple targets that include horizontal uniform linear flight, uniformlyaccelerated rising in flight and decline in flight uniform deceleration. It can simulate upto200ADS-B targets.The design mainly consists of the controlling system andlaunching system, of which the launching system is composed by RF front-end moduleand launching motherboard which contains ARM module and the FPGA module. Thecontents of this thesis include:1. Analysing the functions of the simulator in accordance with the ADS-Bequipment performance requirements, and giving the overall design of the simulator.2. The design of controlling system: this part introduces the communicationprotocol between controlling system and launching system, and then describes the datasimulation of the three kinds of target state. In addition, this part gives a detaileddescription of the various target message encoding process and the design of sendingdata in controlling system.3. The design of launching system: the board of launching system adoptsARM+FPGA hardware structure. This part put emphasis on ARM module design,mainly including: the design of the communication interface and protocol between ARM and FPGA; randomized to send multi-target ADS-B message, the ADS-B newsupdates and so on.4. Testing and analysing the functions of analog system, including the test of thevarious target and the analysis of these results.
