At the end of twentieth century, intelligent transportation systems have been gradually recognized and accepted by the public in China. As the market economy in full swing, car sales are increasing while some equipment is still in research and development. And with the increase of customer applications, the basic facilities are in higher demand. For these problems, China is lacking experience and effective solutions. Now, while GPS technology provides location data, there are some conspicuous errors during the positioning process. As the increasing traffic proposes higher demands, these errors are sometimes the major pullback.Traffic positioning system includes monitoring management system, data communication system and car positioning terminal system. Its main function is through the data communication system transmitting the target vehicle dynamic position (longitude and latitude), time and state information, to monitor management center, after showing the trajectory of the target motion vehicles in a rich geographic information inquiry function of network geographical information system (WebGIS) and controls and inquires to users interested in all kinds of state information. At the same time provides a more convenient platform for vehicle scheduling. It improves the efficiency and road safety performance.Therefrom, this paper presents a design of intelligent transportation positioning system. The design first used high speed and high precision ARMS3C2440series processor as the hardware of user receiver, to compensate fixed error; Secondly, combining differential positioning theory, the real-time quality of the algorithm is advanced, which can reduce the error caused by data processing. The cost-effective vehicle positioning system presented has high data processing, data transmission speed and high precision.This paper is divided into the following sections:1) introduction of the principle of positioning system, the overall design of the system. The key is the terminal system hardware design;2) introduction of the system hardware design. The keys are ARMS3C2440series processor, GPS module, GPRS module, and the relationship between separate parts. It shows the design scheme form both pictures and texts; 3) introduction of the algorithm innovation and debugging analysis. It ultimately successful realize the accuracy of orientation data based on experiment, also improves the success of the design through experiments demonstrate.4) introduction of the conclusion and outlook.
