Communication networks for automated warehouse are important components of the warehouse. The communication networks of the warehouse can obviously improve storage efficiency and automation level of the warehouse. Therefore, researching and designing on the warehouse communication networks and key technology becomes a key factor to improve the warehouse storage efficiency and automation level. Based on the development of one actual project, the communication networks, the communication protocol of monitor and communication software have been studied. The author focus on the automated warehouse communications networks and key technology aimed to develop with interoperability and scalable communication networks.Firstly, development process of the communication protocol of monitor was analysised on. Then, Formal Design Method of communication protocol of monitor was analysised on. The formalization of finite state machines was used to designing the communication protocol of monitor. Based on the analyses of design points of communication protocol of monitor, communication protocol of monitor was designed. Formal Design and Implementation is including:designing finite state machine model of the communication protocol of monitor, state transition rules function and state transition table, the communication process of the PLC and host monitoring was designed. Finally the packet data structure was designed.Communication software for PLC of Siemens has been designed. It includes two aspects: PLC programming and the communication software of the upper monitor machine. PLC programming includes network configuration and designing communication program, configuring the PLC hardware, setting the network address, establishing the connection. PLC communication function was achieved by calling communication function block. VB language was used to designing communication software of the upper monitor machine. The communication software was tested. The feasibility of communication software was verified.The communications software replaces the OPC software, not only saving the cost of the development of the warehouse, but also reducing the occupation of PC resources. The communications software can improve real-time system performance.
