Wireless Optical Communication is a new green communication system based on light propagation in free space. The technology has high bandwidth, low radiation, and does not take up the limited radio frequency band. The Wireless optical communication consequently attracts more and more attention from international researchers. It is an important choice for future communication.Among them, Ultraviolet Light Communication in Solar Blind Band has several unique characteristics including anti-eavesdropping, low identifiability, all-weather comprehensive, and anti-jamming, which has much significance to research.This paper developed an extensive study over research situation of Ultraviolet Light Communication both in China and abroad. The study combined the theoretical research of the propagation characteristic of ultraviolet light in atmosphere and practical experiment of communication channel assessment, proposed and validated the way to improve the performance of UV communication system by applying new actual system design including different transmitter, detector and voice codec system. Finally, the design realized the software and hardware implementation of the experimental platform of UV communication system. Then, took the parameter test to UV channel and conducted actual communication experiments to verify the accuracy and feasibility of the design proposal.The experimental system uses UV LED as light source, PMT as detector and achieved hundreds-meter-distance non-line-of-sight low bitrate communication with low power consumption. The system is then tested with business systems equipped, and successfully achieved the simplex voice communication in UV transmission.
