Geological data is important wealth of the geological work and is significant carrier of geological information service to the society economic construction; it has many features as wide range of applications, reusable and high potential value. China since the founding of carrying out a large amount of geological work and formed a mass of various types of geological data. These valuable data had been saved as files or records and serviced people in a register-lending way due to the lack of funds and attention. However, the developed countries’ geological data always been managed in a platform way and serviced people in a shared way. We conclude that there is a huge gap between our country and developed countries in geological data management and service. As the continuous development of our country’s economy the society demand for the service of geological data becoming higher and higher, how to improve the geological data’s management and service is the emphasis of our geological data work.This article use the I in2.5million national geological map and the I in I million national geological map as the data source to research improving our country’s geological management and service in a thought of merging. In the management part, we use the Object-relational spatial database to manage the geological map in layers unit; in the service part, we take advantage of the WebGIS technique to provide people online geological map browsing which could make people browse the geological map without the restrictions of the local devices in anywhere and anytime by a Browser. The whole system is based on the technical architecture of Oracle Spatial+MapViewer from the Oracle Corporation. We use the Oracle Spatial database’s powerful spatial data management capabilities to manage the geological map data and visualize them by the MapViewer middleware, and then provide people with online geological map browsing service.This topic take advantage of the merging thought to build the geological data’s management and service’s new mode which decompose geological map as layers to manage in database management system and provide people with geological map merging display service in online forms. The whole study is completed at a low price and the prototype system has already been built.
