As the development of the micro-electro-mechanism system, system on chip, wireless communication and embedded system with low-power consumption, these inoculation a new subject-Wireless Sensor Networks, WSN. It has the characteristics of low-cost, distributed, self-organization and so on. Modern information technology has three basis: sensor technology, communication technology and computer technology. Wireless Sensor Networks can bring the three kinds of technology together, realize the information collection, transmission and processing of the real unity.This paper studies WSN in the use of environmental monitoring. It includes node and network parts.Measurements of the atmospheric environment parameters of the sensor for example temperature, humidity, light, SO2and so on, would be sent to the single chip microcomputer after the corresponding circuit. The data could be managed in the single chip microcomputer then be sent by the wireless communication. The paper analysed the characteristics, determined the types of sensors, designed the circuits and made a detail explanation about the important software.About the wireless sensor network part, this paper mainly studied the network layer with routing protocol and data chain layer with MAC. After many kinds of agreement comparison, the paper explained the superiority of LEACH agreement in detail, and the paper studied the algorithm mechanism. Also, this paper studied the MAC agreement of the data chain layer by date competed. The article introduced six working mechanisms. It was very suitable for medium MSN.The paper verified the correctness of environmental parameters after a large number of various experiments. Also it tested the advantage of S-MAC agreement in the system by energy consumption, delay and throughput in MATLAB. It effectively improved the level of experimental conditions for domestic research on WSN.
