Software radio technology has been used widely in all aspects of military, business, and civil etc at present. With the application of three kinds of the third generation telecommunication, and the following fierce competition of the fourth generation telecommunication, the software radio general platform has attracted increasing attention. Because of the strict industrial specification, high reliability, flexibility and generality, the existing software radio general platform which has been compatible with CompactPCI(CPCI) industrial bus accept person favour increasingly. But the performance price ratio of these software radio platforms is too embarrassing. So it has practical significance and to research and design a general baseband signal processing platform.The original intention of the design about base band signal processing platform proposed in this paper is to feed the needs in the scientific researches. In order to improve the performance of wireless communication system, this paper provide a design of the base band signal processing platform, which is used for the algorithm research of wireless communication system. The base band signal processing platform is made up of modulation signal processing board and demodulation signal processing board. These boards linking to host computer through the CPCI bus constitute a base band signal processing platform by way of loosely coupled architecture. As the main core of modulation or demodulation signal processing platform, DSP is responsible for finishing the arithmetic processing of the base band signal processing platform. FPGA which works as the co-processing core is in charge of the modulation and demodulation of the signal and establishment of communication interface. Direct intermediate frequency sampling and hardware digital up/down converter is utilized in the signal conversion module for the task of conversion between intermediate frequency analog signal and base band digital signal. High-speed external memory interface is employed for the communication between CPU cores. Besides, Ethernet communication interface, DDR2-533 high speed memory and mass storage are designed for the purpose of improving the performance of our platform. Powerful calculation, mass data storage and good extension are features of the signal processing platform.This paper introduces the design principle and hardware scheme, as well as performance indices, of process platform. Firstly, it formulates essential concepts, structers and kernel ideas of software radio technology and briefly outline contents of research status and trends of evolution.Secondly, it analyses functional requirements and calculates performance indices which are based on design of process platform of software radio technology, especialy emphasizing allocation scheme of low jitter and multiple clocks, and then confirms detail design of structure of the control card, kernel components and hardware modules based on requirements. Finally, it debugs and tests process platform to varify function of each module. The ultimate test results indicate that working performance of process platform satisfies design requirments.The research supports foundation of theory and basis of practice for design of software defined radio technology, and shows application values.
