The marine auxiliary boiler is one of the important equipments of the ship. It’s definitely prescribed that the sailors must be trained in the simulator by International Maritime Organization in the Seafarers’ Training, Certification and Watchkeeping Convention. However, the current simulators are most in the hardware environment and have many shortcomings. With the rapid development of virtual reality technology, more and more researchers pay their attention to virtual reality technology. Kinds of input and output devices make human-computer interaction more authentic.Regarding the PHANTOM Desktop as the interactive interface and based on the virtual reality technology, the paper designs a virtual Operational system for marine auxiliary boiler in the compiling environment of Visual C++ 6.0, which can realize the function of scene navigation, human-computer interaction and simulation. The aim of the paper is to make use of the PHANTOM Desktop to design a virtual training platform, which not only reveals the operating conditions of the auxiliary boiler in sight but also enables the users to feel the force as practical operation. Moreover, the platform can help the students to quickly learn and understand the various components of the auxiliary boiler and reduce the cost and the impact of incorrect manipulation of the factual practice.According to the actual situation and operational requirements, the paper first constructs the virtual environment of the marine auxiliary boiler. In the basis of of the 3D model of technical indicators and modeling principles, the paper chooses 3DS MAX and MultiGen Creator as the modeling software. The former of the two is used to construct models and the later is used to optimize models. What’s more, the paper divides the process into three sections which include data compilation, model construction and model optimization. At the end of the chapter, the paper shows the pictures of the models and describes the process of construct the dynamic models by the instantiations of the dynamic model. The virtual environment is the emphasis of the paper while the virtual operational system is the hard core. After the introduction of the PHANTOM Desktop, the paper recounts how to design the system at the point of the functional modules which are made of the force feedback module, the virtual scene module and the simulation module. In addition, the paper gives the explanation of the key technology in the system. Finally, the function and the instruction of the virtual operational system are concretely described.
