At present, face-matching has a wide application area and takes an indispensable role in some special industries. As the popularization of smartphones and the rapid development of 3G, it is possible to develop a remote face-matching system which is based on the 3G mobile phone. In this paper, we present the implementation of this remote system and validate its performance through experiments and researches. The basic function of 3G-based mobile face recognition system is matching the face to be confirmed with the faces in database. The face to be confirmed is shot with mobile phone, and transmit to the server after normalization. Then the server compares this face with the faces in databases, and finally returns the result.In this paper, we propose the realization details for image transmission applied in the remote face matching system. At first, we introduce the current situation and development of 3G in China. And we evaluate the performance of 3G through numerous researches, experiments and analysis. Then we design the remote-face matching system and test the performance of data transmission in actual system.The experiment results indicate that the image transmission between the mobile phone and the server is available, and we apply this technique to remote face-matching system. In general, this paper proposes a feasible scheme on image transmission based on 3G, and promotes the development of corresponding industries and products.
