Design And Implementation Of License Management System Based On Silverlight

Management Information System (MIS) has developed through many years. From the perspective of technical architecture, MIS has evolved through main eras such as:desktop applications, web browser applications and rich internet applications. During the days of desktop applications and web browser applications, people paid most of their attention to business functionalities and performance improving. But little effort was made to improve user experiences. On the other hand, the software development was constrained by the main technologies available at that time, which made it almost impossible to improve the user experience any further.Rich Internet Application (RIA) is the solution that solves problems related to user experiences. RIA is built upon existing web browser application architecture, while adding new ways of implementing the presentation layer. It provides user experiences that are smooth, attractive and universal. Many companies and organizations around the world have been working on different directions on RIA technology implementation, and after years of evolution, we are now able to see three main branches of them, including:Flex, Silverlight and HTML5.RIA technology is widely used among video content websites and other entertainment websites. However, few examples were found in MIS field. RIA technology shares high performance and capabilities in many aspects such as: multi-media, data visualization, agile deployment and user experience. All these features make RIA a great tool to improve the user experience MIS, making its rigid and complex data much easier to access.This paper takes a license management system of a software application company as example, and explains the whole process of designing and implementing the system based on Microsoft’s RIA technology, as known as Silverlight. The topic also extends to how to integrate the system with cloud computing platform and mobile devise.
