With more than two decadesā€™development, currently, in China, the mobile communication forms the situation that 2G and 3G coexist and three 3G models coexist.For the openness as the broadcast media, the service quality of the mobile communication is easy to be impacted by the surrounding environment. Therefore, the network maintenance and optimization is always one of the importance tasks of the operators.The traditional tools for the network maintenance and optimization include OMC, the automatic DT system and the customer complaint system. This article analyzes the function concerns and the limitations of the three systems and describes the role the signaling monitoring system plays in the network maintenance and optimization on the signaling analysis view.With the development of the mobile network, the signaling products also begin to shift to the 3G network from the 2G network. In the 2G network, the signaling channel differs from the service channel obviously and the signaling channel transmits messages by a well-known coding format, hence, the 2G signaling monitoring product completes the signaling capture and decoding analysis easily. But in the Iub interface of the 3G network, the signaling channel and service channel are mixed and they adopts the same protocols in the bottom layer. If the transmission channel type and the transmission channel format set cannot be identified correctly, the signaling splitting, capture and decoding cannot be done properly.This paper analyzes the features of the protocol stack, transmission link type and bottom layer protocols in the Iub interface, and points out the auto-identification method of the IMA layer, ATM AAL link layer and common transmission channel layer. By the method, the signaling capture and decoding analysis can be completed without the link information provided by OMC.In the end of the paper, it points out that the signaling monitoring system generated the result after the auto-identification in the Iub interface.
