The RFC2338 standards, created by Microsoft, Nokia, IBM and other companies was released in April 1998.The standard document gives a detailed and comprehensive description of the Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol for the first time. VRRP protocol is usually used in the LAN gateway device to increase the backup router for the idea, when the router which works as a gateway fails, the backup router can automatically switch to act as a gateway without notice to the users to change the gateway address, improving the stability and reliability of network.In this paper, the latest standards document RFC5798 VRRP are targeted, in-depth study VRRP protocol works, working processes, message structure and state machine, etc., explain important concepts on the agreement, and further analysis of their design concept and the need exists. Meanwhile, in order to further improve network stability, for the special nature of the interface and port failure, the interface to monitor and port monitor function is designed; in order to avoid IP conflict, an increase of free time to send GARP packet design.Another purpose of this paper is to achieve the VxWorks operating system based on the three switches and VRRP software.. To achieve this purpose, being based on the research of protocol VRRP, by analyzing the configuration commands, data structures, state machines and other major features of The VRRP module, and design for the main function of the corresponding software, and ultimately the function of each sub-module VxWorks on integration.
