With the development of information technology in the world,the reliability and the security of the network service are becoming more and more important than before. VRRP(Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol) which is a clustering technique to solve the problem of availability is introduced in this file.Because of VRRP(Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol) protocol, the backup one would take over the network gateway service at once when a network gateway equipment dissipated,afterwards the quality of network services would be improved.The work station, message and the common application of network development is described in this file. And then the problem which is discovered in the practical application is analysed and moreover,the suggestion to solve the problem is given and discussed in detail.In the base of RFC5798 which is the latest version of VRRP, those problems have been analysed in the version and their advantages and disadveantages are discussed in detail。This thesis firstly compares and analyses different protocols based on their various principles of operation and functionalities, which then concludes the advantages and disadvantages between them. Meanwhile it provides the analysis on defects of the state modified principles of the state machines whcich are specified by RFC 5798, and makes improvements according to the defects. The results of the verifacation according to the improvements show that it does get expected effects and elevates the working efficiency.Besides, this thesis puts forward a Master_down adaptive algorithm based on the networking stability, which improves the situation that the long waiting time of the VRRP in complex environments lies much heavier upon the networking, in order to enhance the feasibility of VRRP towards the complicated environments, and it provides the simulation results in the Vxworks environment as well.
