As the old saying,“Foods are the most essential for man”, the food safety related to everybody’shealth and the livelihood. As a traditional mainstream media, TV is the most widely used media thatparticipating the social events deeper and deeper. To some extent, TV media urged the solution of foodsafety incidents in the public crisis events, and played a positive role in the supervision.This paper takes the characteristics of the TV media as a start point, analyzes the advantages anddisadvantages between TV and other mass media, summarizes its participation in food safety events, andsums up the response and performance in face of the food safety events. Such as “Jinhua Ham”,“KFCSudan I”,“Sanlu milk powder” and “waste oil events”, each with the solution of food safety incident areinseparable from the depth of TV’s participation.TV with its propagation characteristic—visual and auditory combination—and its propagationadvantage, it always stands at the top of the public opinions, not only attracts the audiences’ attention andalso be the “leader” and “wind-vane” of the public opinions in the media. There are many events firstreported by TV, and then drives the broadcast, newspaper, and network news follow-up. Finally, they forma huge public opinion supervision force; become a sharp sword for the supervision of the government in theexposure of the illegal enterprises.TV with its unique propagation effects, plays a positive role on participate the food safety supervision.Under the sustained consideration and the public opinion supervision, the food quality improved gradually,so does the security of people’s diet, but we should see the chain reaction company with the expectedpositive effect when the TV spread the food safety information to the audiences. While the opportunelyspread of the information, the TV media push the food security incident as a professional problem to thewhole society. The report of TV media for some food security affected not only some enterprises or somebusiness but will give the entire industry a great fluctuation; it will arouse the attention of the society aswell. Then, the enterprises, the business and the government had to under the incredible pressure that theaudience’s attention sensitively moves the whole body. Meanwhile, after the market transformation of the media, due to the benefit obligation and the qualityof the practitioners, it is presented that some false news and untrue reports. Under the high attention of thewhole society, each of the TV media false reports could lead to the audiences a strong psychological panic,produce extremely bad social impact.There are the key points of this study that how to avoid the negative effect of the TV media in thefood safety supervision by public opinion and how to display the positive effect. Regulating themanagement system of the TV media, improving the professionalism of the employees, enhancing thesocial responsibility sense of the TV workers, they all our urgent need to be resolved. We should workfrom the source of the news, pick up the high professionalism journalists, and guarantee the accuracy andthe scientific nature of the news from the very beginning. At the same time, we have to check and filter thenews seriously in order to nipped the negative risks in its infancy, so the TV can brings into play its publicopinion supervision effect and undertakes the great responsibility as the mouthpiece of the government andthe public opinion which given by the entire society.
