IP Multimedia Subsystem that is IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem), is put forward by the third generation of mobile communication partner organizations3GPP (The third Generation Partnership Project),as the general network architecture in IP-based networks to provide multimedia services. It is characterized by realizing the communication has nothing to do with the access methods, complied with the development trend of communication network integration. Quality of service that is QoS has become the key of the next-generation communication network for normal operation. The quality of service in IMS network is also facing the problem of the bearer of multimedia services, mobility management and so on.Therefore, the research on the QoS of IP Multimedia Subsystem has great significance.This paper first describes the overall architecture of the IMS network, related network elements, signaling processes and other related issues. Next, by the requirements of the QoS in IMS network, introduced the IP QoS and QoS mechanisms of the IMS network, find out the method to optimize the quality of service of the IMS network. Finally, introduced the network simulation software OPNET,and use its simulated the queue scheduling algorithm of differentiated service model, on this foundation, used of OPNET built end-to-end IMS network,Designed of a policy-based queue scheduling model to achieve the QoS optimization of the end to end IMS network. The result of this paper has laid a theoretical basis for future research.
