The Internet gives us plenty of convenience, and is stepping rapidly into our lives.According to the29th China Internet Development Statistics Report released byChina Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) on January16,2012, it showsthat the size of the Internet users in China exceeded500million to513million by theend of December2011, new Internet users reach to55.8million throughout the year.Internet penetration rate increased by four percentage points compared with that ofthe previous year, reached to38.3%. The development of Web technology is the keyfactor to promote the rapid development of the Internet. The Web server is used to handle user interaction with the network information, and to provide users to browse web pages. At present, with the development ofinformation technology, the web server applications is becoming more widespread. Awebsite usually distributes an application into more than one web server. Thetraditional methods of detecting whether a web application is abnormal need spend alot of manpower. By designing and implementing a web-based server monitoring andmanagement system, managers can use a web browser for remote monitoring andmanagement through the Internet. Not only to meet the needs of monitoring tasks, andreduce operation and maintenance costs, improve operational efficiency, and has ahigh practical value.Web-based server monitoring mainly refers to the local computer network system(Internet) on the remote server monitoring and control, including remote dataacquisition, remote monitoring and remote maintenance. With the help of webtechnology, managers can monitor the status of the server, and complete parametersettings and adjustments, fault recovery without needing to visit the workplace and amore hostile environment. The system includes the following modules: web pagemonitoring module, port monitoring module, alarm module, and e-mail sendingmodule. For timely processing of the abnormal server, the system alarm responsewithin10minutes, the monitoring interval is1minute. The system simulate users to access web pages via HTTP, and analysize thereponse page to judge(according to connection time and status code etc.) whether thepage work normally or not, and then send a alarm email to administrators. The systemuses Hsqldb as the database which will be clear in ten minutes when the alarm emailbe sent. And it wll generates a monitoring and alarm logs.
