With the network traffic changing from giving priority on TDM to packet data service, optical transport network is experiencing transformation, too. Since there exist many disadvantages in the traditional optical transmission network for the transfer of the packet based IP service and new kind service, the IP transformation of telecommunication service has put forward the packet transfer request on optical transmission network. PTN is generated on this background. Reasonable planning and constructing on PTN can well improve the transmission network’s bearing capacity and greatly reduce the cost of operators, therefore, how to effectively plan the development of the PTN network construction has also become a pressing matter of the moment for Lvliang Mobile. This paper studies each technique of PTN network planning and prediction, and analyzes in detail from business development, business model, network status and other aspects. This article first introduced the technology related to PTN network planning and construction, and two key technologies (PBT, T-MPLS) are described in detail. Then a detailed analysis was made for Lvliang Mobile business development in 2012-2014 to do service forecasting from aspects of GSM network, TD network, WLAN network, customers and others, and a subdivision of quantification was also undertaken aiming at each kind of service to obtain the ability that PTN network needs to reach in three years. In order to reduce Lvliang Mobile network construction investment, this paper also analyzes the existing optical transport network of Lvliang Mobile, proposing the principle needed to be followed in PTN network construction from the angle of network smooth transition evolution. The third part of the article emphasize the construction principles and ideas on the PTN network planning and construction analysis, using the PTN network core layer, convergence layer and access layer to explain and obtain the network planning and topology of Lvliang 2012-2014 PTN, simultaneously, PTN ring network protection, network management, QOS, synchronization and other aspects were further analyzed to ensure the integrity of the planning. The last part of this chapter summarized the problems existing or found in this study and proposed some corresponding solutions for the perfection and improvement of the following actual implementation of the project.
