Pharmaceutical Enterprise Business Intelligence System Based On Data Warehouse Design And Implementation

At present pharmaceutical companies have had a variety of maturity business systems along with their supporting systems, and accumulated huge amounts of operational data through information construction. However, the data is distributed across multiple independent systems; it is hard to be shared with different departments and data integrity, consistency and accuracy also can not be guaranteed. What is more important, decision-makers are not able to find out the deficiency of operations, get marketing related information and forecast about future developments based on the data. In order to solve these problems, a data warehouse-based business intelligence system is needed to effectively integrate, refine and process data thus to better assist decision-makers on scientific decision-making.This paper details the implementation steps and concrete applications of data warehouse solution in business intelligence environment based on the design and implementation of one pharmaceutical enterprise B1 system. Following topics are involved:subjects’model design of data warehouse, topic-specific report development, implementation of ETL data extraction strategy, report presentation in front-end and so on. And this paper proposed one data warehouse solution for pharmaceutical companies which making the data organization more efficiency, clear and normalization. Meanwhile, it introduced a theme-based Cognos reporting platform and cubes along with variety of data presentation features, such as cross tables, pie charts, bar charts, line graphs and so on. It not only reflects the powerful of Cognos, but also provides supporting data for decision-makers. Currently, the proposed architecture has been in the company’s trail. In practice, decision-makers can easily and quickly extract the key decision-making data through reports and it has already played an important role in strategic decisions making.
