The Internet has already been one of the most important ways for people to get thedigital videos such as films and TV programs because of the rapid development ofnetwork technology. As network video plays a more and more important role in Internet,the spread of the adverse video is increasingly wider, which has seriously blocked thehealthy development of Internet. This paper studies the propagation process of networkvideo and analyzes the feather of this process, which will be significant for supervisingand the policy-making of network.The main works in the paper are as follows:1) The SI epidemic model is adopted to study the propagation process of networkvideos and the analyses are given by the simulations results.2) An improved epidemic model is proposed. Based on the SI epidemic model, animproved epidemic model in which the effects of the network bandwidth on thepropagation process of network videos are considered is proposed. The proposed modelrestricted by the bandwidth is much accord with the propagation characteristic of thenetwork videos.3) Survival analysis is introduced to study the process. This paper presents amethod on survival analysis for the propagation process of network videos bydiscussing the risk factors and effective time of the normal videos and adverse videos onthe Internet.Firstly, four different epidemic models are introduced and the comparisonsbetween them are made. Based on the comparison results and the propagationcharacteristic of the network videos, SI model has been chosen to study the propagationprocess of the network videos. Secondly, bandwidth blocking passing rate, bandwidthsaturation passing rate and bandwidth passing rate are defined in the context of therestriction of the bandwidth to the propagation of the videos. By introducing thesedefinitions into the SI model, the bandwidth constrain based SI model which inaccordance with the propagation characteristic of the network videos is obtained.Simulation and analytical results show that the greater the number of network videodownload nodes is, the smaller the inhibition to the spread of network videos is on thecondition of the bandwidth constraint. Then, two groups of data are analyzed usingKaplan-Meier to show the great difference of the normal videos and adverse videos on the effective propagation time. Results indicate that the effective time of adverse videosis longer than the normal. Finally, the COX’s proportional hazard regression model isadopted to investigate the effect of content downloaded, download type, region and thevideo length on the active time of network videos. It is found that the video content hasgreat impact on the effective time of network videos. It means that the dormancy risk ofthe normal video is bigger for. Besides, download type and region also have someimpacts.
