As we all know that people’s demand for home environment is increasing with the development of society. The smart home system combines all the sub-system together which related to the safety of home life by modern IT technology, so as to provide a much safer, more comfortable and more convenient life.Compared with wired smart home system is poor in flexibility and expansibility, smart home system based on wireless network overcomes the shortcomings of the traditional smart home system. This paper selected ZigBee technology which has low power, low rate, low-cost, short range and a series of other advantages to build smart home system. And the system can join the sensor nodes dynamically, self-organizing network, self-healing and auto alarm for using start network topology.The system design consists of hardware and software. The hardware design is composed of ZigBee wireless modules, power module, terminal nodes module and so on. We use CC2430as the core component in ZigBee module, whose properties exceed the requirements of IEEE802.15.4standard. The excellent performance on the selectivity and sensitivity can ensure the validity and reliability of short-distance communication. System software mainly includes the design of Z-Stack protocol stack and relevant parts of ZigBee module. To consider the versatility and easy development we choose TI’s Z-Stack because whose main feature is the compatibility, and which full support for the IEEE802.15.4and CC2430. After debugging it finally realizes lighting control, electric curtain control, infrared detection, gas detection and temperature display. By these features, it proves that ZigBee application of smart home system has a very important value.
