Belong with the increasing of the society wealthy, the security issues become more and more important. The real-time video surveillance system is one of the important measures which are used to solving security issues. The developments of the computer and network technology cause the big influence of the video surveillance system. The signal of the video surveillance system becomes from analog signals to digital signals. So the transmission of the video signals becomes more. The method which transmits the signal by network is used into the long distance video surveillance system.The network transmission of the video signals is one of the important departments in the video surveillance system. It directly impacts the stability between the collection department and the display department and the integrity of the data transmission in the system. So in the article, one video transmission method which uses the network is designed.This design is based on the FPGA technology and theμClinux embedded system. In this design, the SOPC technology and FPGA design method are used to develop the hardware system. Then theμClinux embedded system which is transplanted into the NiosⅡprocessor is used to program the soft system. By using the TCP/IP protocol, the video signal can be transmitted from the collection side to the display side in the local area network.Compared with the traditional video surveillance system, this design creates a flexible embedded hardware system. It integrates the CPU and related IP hardware interfaces to completing the hardware system of the collection and display department.The network transmission is achieved by the TCP/IP protocol in theμClinux embedded system. This system has lots of merits such as high integration and portability. One collection department can connect to a large number of display deparments which are also connect into the router. Then the supervisory control scope becomes widely.In the collection department of the network transmission system, there is a module which can achieve picture in picture designed by the Verilog HDL. So the kinds of the transmission video data become diversification to satisfy the different requirements. Compared with program by the NiosⅡ,this method have high integration and portability.In this article the realization principle and main function of the design is described. It also includes the main hardware module and important technology of the network program in the μClinux embedded system. The design is also tested and verified by running the program on the development plant.
