Smart home, using cabling technology, network communication technology and securitytechnology, integrates variety of sub-system that related to household life as one sysytem. It is usedto enhance the convenience, comfort and safety of household life. To realize the smart home, thefirst step is to establish a household communication network through which is convenient tocontrol and monitor the network node device. The second step is to construct some mediaplatforms to realize the comunication between the network and the outside world to meet thedemands of long-range or short-range control and information exchange.This paper contains two main parts. Part one: how to control the network node device? Short-range infrared and remote Ethernet are used to control the home gateway upon customer’s demand.Part two: how to construct the household network? The power line carrrier (PLC) technology isapplied to achieve household inter-node communication. The research is devided into five parts.Firstly, analyze the background of the paper and the status of the research both at home and abroad,and introduce the main research in this paper. Secondly, elaborate the overall design of the systemand options of each module. Thirdly, the IR control program based on AT89S52, the Ethernetremote control program based on STM32and the power line carrier network solution based onPL3106are described in detail. Among them, the infrared control program applies the two-wayfeedback design based on MCU which is different from the normal IR control in the market; theEthernet remote control program implements a web server by transplanting uIP protocol to STM32based on the Cortex M3core; the PLC network solution uses the PL3106as the network node anddesigns a communication protocol for common room, and takes a house with three rooms, one hall,one kitchen, and one rest room as an example to show the detailed hardware and software solutionsand processes. Fourthly, test each module and the whole system as well. Finally, summarize thepaper with a promising prospect of the future.The smart home control and networking platform designed in this paper can meet the needs ofgeneral household life with a relatively high cost performance.The tests show that the solutions inthis study are feasible and can achieve the desired goals. The control solution proposed in thispaper can meet the needs of short-range and remote control. And the network construction solutioneffectively avoids the complexity of normal cable network and the signal attenuation of wirelessnetwork. All in all, this program can meet the general requirements of smart home.
