Although the development of technology has spawned diversity of media forms, symbols of all different media forms are nothing less than the text, language and images. And the difference is different historical periods use different mainstream symbolsystems. The emergence of film, radio and television eliminated the time and spacelimitations of the communication of audio-visual symbols. Film, radio and televisionoccupied the vast majority of people’ attention because of the advantages of convenientand intuitive communication. And these medias also change people’s way of thinkingand values quietly.By contrast, character communication constantly shrinks during this period andmany people exclaims the demise of literary and newspaper. In fact, charactercommunication has not always been such a decline, in contrast, in a very long period oftime before, character communication has been the mainstream communication form ofhuman society.Learning from Harold A.Innis’s the bias of communication theory, the article names it social media bias based on the different mainstream communicationforms of society in different periods,Accordingly, there is also distinction of comprehensive ability to use differentsymbol system between different individuals, and this is called individual media bias. The period which has particular bias will provide more social resources forindividuals who have the same bias. In contrast, individuals who has the different biaswill inevitably have to suffer snub. For example, both belonging to the entertainmentindustry, but movie star in the era of audio-visual communication and actors in the eraof character communication enjoy a completely different social status. The development of media technologies caused the decline of charactercommunication in the era of audio-visual symbols communication. But furtherdevelopment of technologies creates redevelopment opportunities of the charactercommunication. With internet, cell phones and other new medias, the character communication hasmore new communication patterns, such as Network literature, microblogging, e-booksand books e-commerce etc. These new patterns continue the tradition of the character communication successfully. Among them, the network literature, microblogging, ande-book not only changed the form of the character communication, and also aredifferent from traditional text narrative. Books e-commerce retains the traditionalcharacter communication content at the most, it only change the channels of charactercommunication. There is no denying the fact that they all create more space for the development ofcharacter communication and achieve the redevelopment under the new mediaenvironment.
