Intelligent Traffic System (ITS) is a key aspect of urban planning. The vehicle flowdetector used frequency modulated continuous wave radar is a very import part in thesystem. It is one of accesses for road information will have broad application prospects inITS. This paper focuses on the research and design of vehicle detection data processingsystem based on Frequency modulated continuous Wave Radar.According to the actual conditions of expressway and the standard of communicationministry, the paper set down the radar’s working system, working frequency and rangeresolution. The paper analysis the form of beat signal and the influence of detectionenvironment, the effects of white noise, zero signal and their elimination methods based onthe the principle of FMCW radar detection. Because the technical means used in FMCWradar ranging is to detect the frequency of beat signal, the paper fully compared the chirp-zalgorithm radix-2FFT algorithm which can be used in this system. In system design, FPGAis the controller and the processer, USB2.0interface is used for transmit data,DDS+VCO+NIOSⅡis used to design the high performance signal source. The designhighly leverages the advantage of FPGA in logic control and FFT operation. Combined withthe characteristics of USB in stability of soliton, high efficiency and low cost, the design isup to the requirements of the vehicle detection data processing system. And therequirements are great real-time characteristic, low cost and convent of debugging. Theresults of the laboratory tests and road tests show that this design has great effect and isconsistent with the theoretical analysis.
