Vehicle pedestrian detection system is a kind of solutions to drive assistant, the system can detect pedestrian in dangerous and send early warning to drivers automatically. In recent years, carmakers take many measures to avoiding pedestrian accidents by extending depth and width of field. But the sensor used is quite expensive and not applicable. It has practical significance to develop a robust、real-time and stability pedestrian detection system which can reduce and avoid pedestrian accidents effectively. With the emergence of the field programmable gate array device with large-scale, it provide a new approach for the realization of high-speed image processing and resolve the problem of unable detect pedestrian real-time. In this paper, we implement the vehicle pedestrian detection system based on FPGA in the Cyclone Ⅱ EP2C70DSP development board.Fistly analysising the hardware structure of the algorithm, implementing pedestrian detection algorithm on VS2005by C, doing testing and evaluating the effect of pedestrian detection processing. Secondly, completing system integration by adding pedestrian detection module in SOPC Builder software, completing the system hard integration、simulation、 compilation and download in Quartus Ⅱ software, completing system software design in Nios II software. Finally, analyzing the use of resources、the effect of pedestrian detection and processing speed.By testing, the system that we implemented in the Cyclone Ⅱ EP2C70DSP development board processes a size of320x240gray image takes about723ms at100Mhz clock frequency., achieve a faster processing speed to meet the current electronic devices embedded multimedia processing requirements. The system achieves the desired function, with better real-time and reliability, and small, convenient control with a wide range of applications.
