In the case of the rapid development of IT and business automation,as one of the mostimportant new technology in Automatic Identification Technology field, two-dimensional barcode technology is widely applied in each industry by virtue of its high information storage, highsecurity and many other advantages. In recent years, with the rapid development of economy andinformation industry, China’s demand for two-dimensional bar code identification equipment wasgeometric growth. However, the key technology of identification equipment is dominated byforeign enterprises. These equipments are not only expensive, and the recognition result is notsatisfactory. To solve this problem, many domestic enterprises and institutions engaged inresearch work of the two-dimensional bar code recognition technology, but as yet have notachieved breakthrough progress.This thesis combines image processing technology with two-dimensional bar code decodingtechnology and proposes an implementation scheme based on the widely used PDF417Code andQR Code recognition technology, and designs a two-dimensional bar code identification systemsfor handheld devices. The design consists of three parts: image acquisition system oftwo-dimensional bar code, image pre-processing system and two-dimensional bar code decodingsystem.ARM9development board is the hardware platform and the Linux system is the softwareplatform. The C++program languageis used to complete the program.This thesis employs the widely used Open CV vision library to complete the acquisition ofthe bar code image. Through using the API provided by Open CV for secondary development tocontrol camera to shoot the actual bar code image. The proposed image pre-processing programcan be applied to both the PDF417Code and QR Code. Meanwhile, in order to suit for variety ofcomplex situations that may arise in the actual situation, many scientific and effective imageprocess technologies are used to enhance the quality of barcode image to meet the decodingsystem requirements. The decoding system is implemented by the PDF417code and QR Coderespectively. If the type of the bar code symbol is not informed, decoding system will automaticidentify the type and choose the corresponding system to complete the decoding of bar code.Performance tests show that the recognition system proposed in this paper can be normallyused and completes the capture and decode for two-dimensional bar code in handheld mobileplatform. The correct rate of decoding is90%, achieving the normal requirements of theapplication. Moreover, the proposed bar code identification system based on handheld mobileplatform provides a viable solution and implementation for the two-dimensional bar code appliedto the smart phone platform.
